Glitter and Gold
“Goldie” head piece with metallic birdcage.
I nearly forgot that Thanksgiving was around the corner. Time just flew right by my work table! While I am dreaming of a magical collection for 2020 June brides, I had to stop and slip in a little piece of gold. It’s an introduction to a few cocktail pieces I hope will adorn a few gorgeous heads this coming New Year’s Eve.
I love to give my hat girl’s names, because there is always a personality that shines from each piece. She’s name Goldie, not just because of the color, but it’s fun like the actress Goldie Hawn. She is trimmed with hand-wired braid, and a metallic birdcage. I love the unusual shape of this new block I picked up this past Spring at London Hat Week. I foresee many versions coming in the near future.
My lovely model Stevie (pictured above) came by again to pose for all the pieces currently on display in my studio. Most of the new images have been added on the website. I hope everyone enjoys the updates and changes.
The drastic weather shifts here in Austin makes deciding on head wear difficult! It was a lovely 85 degrees yesterday when I was at a Day of the Dead (dia de los muertos) celebration. It was perfect hat weather, and I gave my silk Shanghai hat an afternoon out. The hostess wore a lovely floral Mexican inspired crown like the ones made popular by Frida Kahlo. I have seen hundreds of versions, and I love them all. Maybe it’s time for me to do my version soon.
